Ryan Walton is a jazz drummer, composer, and educator based in Atlanta, Georgia. His work is grounded in a deep respect for tradition while always seeking new ways to connect with listeners through rhythm, storytelling, and sound. Whether he’s performing on stage, writing new music, or working with students, Ryan brings a thoughtful, energetic spirit to everything he does.
As a performer, Ryan is known for his expressive playing and sensitivity across a range of styles, from straight-ahead swing to contemporary improvisation. He thrives in collaborative settings, performing regularly with a variety of ensembles and creative projects throughout the Southeast. His original compositions often reflect a strong sense of place, shaped by the cultural and natural landscapes that inspire him.
In addition to his work as a musician, Ryan is passionate about education and outreach. He currently serves as a graduate assistant with the Johnny Mercer Quartet, a position awarded by the Johnny Mercer Foundation that centers on the creation and performance of original works. Ryan also works with Rialto Jazz for Kids, a program that brings live music and interactive experiences to young audiences in schools and community spaces.
